Doom Day

Wednesday, March 25- Flood fighting at my grandparents... we watched dikes as the water continued to raise. I also helped Troy evacuate many people with the army truck. He worked closely with the Cass County Sheriff's Department and the border patrol. Our kids were taken to town with myself and border patrol to get them to my in-laws to get out of the flood zone. Wednesday night at 10:30 the electricity went out and we got out the generator and plugged in every cord we could find to keep the pumps running.
Thursday morning, 4:00- water is coming in the windows and over the dike in some spots. We put up a water dike to try to control the water. We were pumping like crazy, also having to thaw out sump pump hoses due to freezing!! 10:00, it is coming in quickly... we continued to clean out the basement as much as we could. 12:00 noon, my grandparents and I were rescued by the coast guard in an air boat. The neighbors were rescued by coast guard helicopter. My husband and my uncle did drive the army truck, my uncle tied to the army truck with a life jacket on and chestweighters, making sure the army truck stayed on the road. The coast guard dropped down a radio from the helicopter to Troy to help also. Troy was then asked by the CG to continue the evacuation in the area. 3:30, Troy and I started for home. What a day. This is by far, one of the most emotionally, physically, mentally exhausting experiences. My grandparents are doing okay, staying at my sisters in Fargo. None of us wanted to except defeat, but for health and safety, we needed to get out. Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts for our family!!!

I will post more pictures when I can get them downloaded... my camera cord is in the house, probably under water somewhere.
Love, Jeannie
